75th day
75th day July 26th Thursday
I am going to quit night class and go back to 1:8 class. It is beneficial to have an extra 1:1 class but it is a kind of stressful to attend night class. Due to the night class, I could not join activities at night time, going out for dinner or attending Taebo.

Today I had my speech script returned. There were full of corrections but I got 24 points that is 1 point lower than the maximum score. The most common mistake was misspelling. If I had typed the assignment, I could make better one. Misspellings would be omitted by spell checker. Witty expressions would be added with the help of the Internet.

In POWER SIM class, we issued Blog Accounts. We are going to share opinion, information, and so on on this blog. POWER SIM class has good equipments including nine PCs, one big flat TV and a good acoustic system. But the problem is we do not have good equipments outside of POWER SIM classroom.

In TSE class, we are studying how to describe graphs these days. Actually it is difficult to describe graphs. But there are some tips to describe graphs, to remember useful words to describe them, to follow the ordinary procedures to describe, and not to make it too precise. Anyway, I had asked to explain a graph in TSE class today so I prepared for TSE class.

The script I made is like this.
--
There are 2 pie graphs printed in the given sheet. Both of them show the Internet usage at home; one is the usage in 1995 and the other is the usage in 2000. Each pie graph describes how many years they have used the Internet at home. There are 5 categories, 1 to 6 months, 6 to 12 months, 1 to 2 years, 2 to 3 years, and 3 years and more. Judging from the fact that there is no category for 0 month, these graphs exclude homes that do not have the Internet connection.
Looking at 1-6 months category, the percentage decreased a lot between 1995 and 2000, 14% in 1995, 4% in 2000. On the other hand, more than 3 years' category increased significantly in the same period.
These two graphs imply that having Internet connection is no more new in 2000.

Then I attended TSE class. At TSE class, I could not describe it well, that is partly because of my insufficient English but mostly because my tiredness caused by busyness. Too much study spoil not only enjoyment but also efficiency of studying. I will be away from TSE class for a while.

Then I attended Night class. My teacher forgot to bring the right material that I practiced pronunciation by reading article in Wikipedia. It was difficult, there were many terms that I did not know and neither did my teacher. Anyway that was pronunciation practice so not being able to understand small details was not a big problem. The problem was that there were many non-English words. There were French words, Spanish words and Tagalog words. And those words have peculiar sounds that are different from English words.

Tonight I played table tennis with Chris, a Korean aged around 10. He is nephew of CPILS's manager and came here with his mother. His English is excellent for his age but he is in relatively low level. I think that is because of the lack of vocabulary.

73rd day July 24th Tuesday

I confirmed that there has been no student in level 6. So if I get 6-something in the final progress test, I will have the highest score ever since its birth. Of course, I want to get it and the pressure on me is getting stronger. Many teachers expect me to get 6.
My pronunciation has improved a lot but my accent has not. That is because I have focused on the pronunciation. I have tried to pronounce with accurate sound. I have not done with pronunciation yet. But I have become a lot better through this ten weeks.

I got writing Assignment in POWER SIM class. I have to submit it tomorrow and I am going to deliver speech using it on Thursday. Length should be between 80 and 150 words.

The question is,
“What is your favorite form of media? Why? Please use specific examples.”

My response is,
--
My favorite form of media is the Internet. Conventional media like TV, radio, newspapers are basically one way media. We can choose the channels to watch and articles to read, but our choices are limited. We have to accept what they provide.
On the other hand, using the Internet is truly spontaneous activity. We have to choose the articles to read. We can reach almost any kinds of information, current news, fads and even historical facts. Some information might be provided by unreliable source. But information is provided by many other sources so we can compare them and we have to judge which information to believe. It is a kind of demanding task but I do not want to believe mass media just for their authority.

I'm going to deliver speech with this script. I would like to practice a lot. But I am not sure if I have enough time to practice it.

I heard that my POWER SIM classmate Chris had gotten level 5-low. Our class has three level 5 students that is about the half of level 5 students in CPILS. I am very proud to have such high level students in our class.

72nd day
72nd day July 23rd Monday

My eleventh week has begun. From this week, I started to take POWER SIM class instead of Albert's 1:4 class. POWER SIM class uses two periods, the first period and the second period. It starts at 8:30 am and ends at 12:10 pm. I have to take two more classes, Rizza's 1:1 class and Richeliana's 1:1 class. And I am still in the Lie's TSE class. In total, I take 450 minutes class in a day that is equivalent to ten 45-minute classes or nine 50-minute classes.
Today is the first day of POWER SIM class so I want to write about it. POWER SIM is an abbreviation of Power Speak in Media. POWER SIM class focuses on public speaking that is an extremely difficult thing especially for non-native speakers. The class has two teachers and seven students. The maximum number of students is 8 so someone could join in the middle of the first term that continues for four weeks. POWER SIM class room has nine PCs, one is for teacher and eight are for students.

During the fourth period, I went to Ayala to withdraw money for POWER SIM class. When I went in front of CPILS, a bus that took new students to Ayala was leaving. I did not want to pay for taxi that I jumped into the bus and went to Ayala with them. At Ayala, I wanted to withdraw Php 12,000. At first, I could successfully withdraw Php 8,000. But I could not withdraw next Php 4,000. As I stated before, my credit is small that I can not draw no more than 100,000 yen a month, that is about Php 35,000 a month. I did not waste money but I paid Php 18,152 for 2 weeks extension, Php 3,500 for VISA extension, Php 10,000 for scuba diving, Php 4,950 for POWER SIM class and, Php 8,052 for airline ticket for Singapore. It already exceeded the limit.
Anyway, with Php 8,000, I could pay the fee for POWER SIM and I would be able to survive until the end of this month. I should have brought the other credit card too.
